The DMM Belay Master Belay Carabiner is a screwgate HMS with a removable nylon clip that only closes when the gate is fully locked – so a closed clip is a visual confirmation that you're locked and correctly orientated. The clip also holds the belay loop captive, keeping the carabiner loaded along its strong axis rather than rotating into a cross-load.

It's the belay carabiner we'd point a new climber towards, and plenty of experienced ones use it for the same reason: one less thing to check twice. The full-size basket takes a belay device comfortably, and the Matt Grey finish is understated. It weighs 93g.
