Beginner: comfort, predictable support and versatility.

Intermediate: more precision, stronger edging or a performance-oriented shape.

Advanced: aggressive geometry, specialised rubber layouts and tighter performance fits aimed at hard climbing.

What does LV mean?

LV = low volume. These versions are intended for feet that need less internal space—often a slimmer forefoot, lower instep or smaller heel. Choose by fit rather than gender label.

Do not automatically downsize to fix a volume mismatch. Start with the correct last/volume, then fine-tune size.

1. Choose fit first

A performance fit should be snug with minimal dead space, especially around the heel and toe box. Pain that changes your movement is not a performance benefit.

2. Match shape to terrain

Flatter shoes suit all-day use, cracks and technical vertical climbing. Stronger downturn helps pull on footholds on steep ground and supports powerful bouldering.

3. Pick support vs sensitivity

Stiffer shoes help on small edges and long routes. Softer shoes give more feedback on volumes, smears and steep modern problems.

4. Think about closure

Laces give the most fit adjustment. Velcro is fast between attempts. Slippers feel simple and sensitive but depend more heavily on getting the volume right.
